Reddit age of empires
It seems like they'll chase any carrot you put in front of their faces. Why would I give up being mathematically better at the game by having more perk slots, more perk options, better guns (and by 'better', I mean ones that aren't intentionally crippled in some way, such as massive recoil or huge bullet spread) and fewer useful utility items and grenades? Why would you ever want to do that? The game isn't more compelling at lower level. What bothers me about the Prestige is that it doesn't just take away certain things. XP is just a way to stick another thing on the screen to pat you on the back for playing. Truth is, CoD is built around appeasing short attention spans and making you feel rewarded for every little kill by giving you stickers, emblems, skins, and weapons for everything. And the CoD die-hards will mock people who aren't on their tenth reset or whatever, and will brag about how fast they level up using glitches, exploits, or just by abusing the way XP works. I think the only game with a progression system I liked was The Darkness 2, just because it made sense in a game where you're supposed to be a near invincible hellspawn that murders dudes 80 different ways. Not to mention, it feels horribly arbitrary because the unlocks are spaced out and incredibly minor - why do I need to unlock 5 different scopes? Why not just give me the whole set so I can decide which ones I like? Why not put the strategy and loadout choices in my hands so the gameplay and metagame becomes my decisions, my tactics and my objectives. It's almost like the game is rewarding you for not playing correctly.Īdditionally, it feels like these systems were added not because they're great ideas or because they're doing interesting things with them, but because it is what is considered "whats up". Way too many times in BF of people holding a line not out of strategy but because they can farm the experience off the losing team. The biggest issue I have with the progression system in those games is the number of people that disregard the objective because the reward for killing lots of dudes is greater than winning the match its self through objectives.
